The New iPhone SE. For when big is not always better!

Apple announced the release of the iPhone SE yesterday to the usual interest from industry. The big news is that the SE is smaller than the iPhone 6 and 6s but that it has the same technology. So whilst it’s got a 4 inch screen like the iPhone 5 and 5s it’s got the A9 chip that makes it at least twice as powerful. That processing power means it can shoot stills at 12MP and video at 4k, and also experience Apple’s Live Photos, which is incredible for such a small device.  It also uses the retina flash for selfies and facetime.

Touch ID using the fingerprint enables the SE to be more security enabled than ever, and to use Apple pay more securely.

So why the size change? While some of us might love the big screen of the 6 and 6s, it’s not perfect for everyone. And, seeing as Apple has a firm eye on its biggest market, China, where the average person is 2 inches shorter than the average American, it seems obvious to make a phone with all the features and power but without the bulk. Up until now the majority of Apple phones sold in China were the 4 inch models. Apple has also responded to criticism that the 6 was too big for many women’s hands, so this is the result of listening, understanding and reacting to what people all over the globe want: small screen and size but with big capabilities.

The SE is also cheaper than the 6s. The 16GB model retails for £359, as opposed to £539 for the equivalent power in a 6s.
